During an evaluation

During an evaluation there are key aspects to keep in mind. While risks are small it is good to be mindful of potential scenarios that could arise during an evaluation or interview process. For example:

  • A participant may disclose family violence (or there may be risk of retaliation from an abusive partner)
  • A participant may re-visit or experience trauma if sensitive topics are discussed or if there is an intrusive interview process
  • Inadequate informed consent (e.g. if the terms of consent are inadequately outlined or unclear for participants)
  • Risks for interviewer(s) (e.g. potential threats or backlash from family or community members)
  • Potential emotional toll for evaluators or program workers (e.g. listening to multiple family violence stories)
